Yesterday after school a man in a dark car near Marlowe Road approached one of our students. The man offered the student a ride home. The student reported that he was afraid and immediately turned and ran home. He reported that he was unable to describe the driver or the car in more detail because he was more focused on getting away and getting home. We have notified the WCPSS Security Department as well as the Raleigh Police Department. We have requested that officers patrol the neighborhood during arrival and dismissal. With this in mind, we must enforce the rule that students not wait for parents off campus. Consider using our carpool line. If your child must walk home from school, we will insist that they walk with a friend. Please discuss with your child what to do if a stranger ever approaches them. It is helpful to remind children to walk against traffic and if approached by a stranger to run away from the street and to home or school – or to the closest adult who they know.
